We are a Geotechnical Consulting company founded in 1988 by Ioseba Jugo [Road, Canal and Port Engineer] and Iñaki Ibarbia [Geologist], with offices in Donostia / San Sebastián and Bilbao. We are specialists in Geotechnical Studies applied to civil engineering, construction, and renewable energy.

We are at hand geotechnical consultants always nearby to immediately serve our customers. Our geotechnicians know the terrain they tread on better than anyone and are able to adapt to the special requirements of our clients.

We are an eco-responsible brand with a personal and social attitude aimed at avoiding or minimizing as much as possible irreversible environmental damage.

Our day to day is full of small gestures and best environmental practices, with as goal preserving our planet.

WE WORK

We listen to customers, and serve and counsel them until they find the geotechnical solutions that best suit to their needs, project, or problem. We propose different alternatives, for instance, aimed at optimizing the type of foundation, or dimensioning a containment structure or treatment of a slope to be carried out, with the consequent economic savings, but always complying with the required safety coefficients.

We have a team of highly qualified professionals (Geologists, and Road, Canal and Port Engineers mainly specialized in Geotechnics), as well as the necessary means to undertake any type of field survey and on-site tests.

We only carry out quality studies, and we respect deadlines. But we refuse to develop “reckless” professional services that would possibly involve irreversible damages by carrying out hasty work with insufficient technical rigor, with risks and/or economic cost overruns.

In 2019, we made a strategic alliance with ALIOS Ingénierie, a leading Geotechnical Engineering group with 13 offices in France, with more than 100 professionals.

We have become a remarkable geotechnical engineering consultancy group in the Basque Country, with offices in the Southern Basque Country (Donostia/San Sebastián and Zamudio, Spain) and the Northern Basque Country (Urruña, France). This gives us great strength and provides us with the possibility to undertake projects both on a national as an international scale with the help of the ALIOS Energies Renouvables Division, a benchmark in France for wind and photovoltaic park projects.

We are convinced green and eco-responsible according to the « Alios Spirit ». Our professional development is part of a circular economy philosophy, aimed at eliminating waste. Innovation

Innovation is the application of new ideas, concepts, products, services and practices, with the intention of being useful for increasing productivity. Innovative tools can be used in all geotechnical fields.

At IKERLUR we accumulate experience in innovative projects in the field of susceptibility study, hazard assessment and geotechnical risk analysis of road slopes and unstable hillsides.

IKERLUR has collaborated in recent years with the Soil Engineering Department of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in various scientific publications related to the analysis of geotechnical risks.

IKERLUR has participated in research studies in collaboration with other companies and public organizations, in order to learn about the “ Mechanisms of degradation of evolutionary soft rocks in slopes” , and the analysis of the “Use of these soft, alterable rocks in embankments and stabilized soils”.

We also study the feasibility of applying Bioengineering techniques to stabilize slopes and unstable hillsides. We collaborate hereby with recognized international specialists.

Since the beginning of our activity, more than 30 years ago, the management of our company recommends its professionals to apply the recommendations of Professor Karl Terzaghi, father of Soil Mechanics, which can be summarized in six points:

IKERLUR has its headquarters in modern offices located in the Zuatzu Business Park in Donostia / San Sebastián and in Bizkaia we have a 450 m² industrial building and offices in the Pinoa de Zamudio Industrial Estate.

Installations and technical means

Geologists and engineers have for their field surveys various instruments such as: a Breithaupt tectonic compass and geologist’s hammer; Vane-tester and pocket penetrometer, Schmidt hammer, magnifying glass, electrical probe for groundwater level measurement; GPS, digital photo camera, Zeiss mirror stereoscope for photointerpretation, as well as various abacuses and useful charts for terrain description and data collection in the field.

The Geotechnical Testing Area (GT) of IKERLUR is accredited according to RD 410/2010 and is registered in the “General Registry of Testing Laboratories for construction quality control – LECCE” with the reference PVS-L-026 (CTE Registration – www.codigotecnico.org).
